The stories of several New Zealand Matheson families have been written and published by family members. They’re a valuable record of some of our pioneering families.
Most are privately published and it’s not always easy to get hold of copies. We now have a digital copy on our website of “Matheson 1875-1975: an Otago family history” by Elliot Hugh Matheson. It’s the story of Murdo and Christina Matheson and their descendants.
Thanks to Elliot’s son Alister for generously giving permission, and Keith Harris at the Middlemarch Museum for making a copy.
Hi Celia
Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, follow the link above and you can get a digital copy of E H Matheson’s book. https://www.clanmatheson.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Matheson-1875-1975-an-Otago-Family-history-min.pdf
The Clan Matheson international gathering in July this year started at the original Attadale estate in Scotland. You can read more about this in our September newsletter.

Can I possibly get a digital copy as we have their previous farm by the name Attadale and I have a short version but would live to read the proper edition.
